With A Variety Of Air Compressor Types Available, We Can Help You Choose The One That Best Suits Your Needs

Different industries require different types of industrial or commercial air compressors, which is why it’s important to consult with our experts

With numerous industrial and commercial air compressor types on the market, it can be difficult to find the right one to suit your company’s needs. That’s why our experts are here to help you choose a system that has the features that you’re looking for. The four main types of compressors are:

Rotary Screw Air Compressors

A rotary screw air compressor provides continuous compressed air. It is the most common type of compressor used for industrial applications. There are several reasons why rotary screw compressors are so popular:

  • They are remarkably efficient
  • They produce minimal noise
  • They are very precise
  • They can operate in some of the harshest environments

Due to these benefits, rotary screw compressors are frequently used in a variety of industries, including medical research and manufacturing of semiconductors and railroads.

Piston Air Compressors

Piston air compressors (also known as reciprocating compressors) produce and store air at pressures exceeding 100 psi. Single cylinder compressors typically store air at 120-125 psi, while double cylinder compressors can store air at pressures over 175 psi. With piston air compressors, air is drawn into the compressor cylinder, a piston stroke compresses the air, and then the air is pushed into a storage tank.

Piston compressors are inexpensive, easy to maintain, and can store air at higher pressures than most rotary screw and scroll compressors. However, they are also noisy, produce excessive head, and require a lot of oil to operate efficiently. They are commonly used in the automotive industry and other verticals where these drawbacks aren’t significant concerns.

Scroll Air Compressors

Scroll compressors are simple devices that consist of two spiral elements. One spiral element is stationary, while the other rotates around it. The circular motion creates suction, which draws the air to the center of the compressor. The air is gradually funneled to a pipe, where it is stored in a compressed state.

Some scroll compressors have two moving spiral elements, but the process is otherwise the same. Scroll compressors have well-lubricated casings to minimize heat and noise. Since they produce little heat, they are ideal for refrigerant devices, such as air conditioners and freezers.

Oil-Free Air Compressors

While oil is an excellent lubricant, it is also messy and can contaminate the surrounding environment. Some industries—such as hospitals and semi-conductor manufacturers—require sterile environments, so oil-free air compressors are necessary. There are oil-free forms of reciprocating, scroll, and rotary screw air compressors.

Different air compressor types suit the needs of different industries. Let us help you determine which one works best for your needs. What others are saying

United Compressor is very professional, responsive, knowledgeable and honest. They take the time to express and communicate with their customer to make sure they meet there needs. Unlike (the big compressor brand) company’s service, United Compressor takes the time to evaluate the whole system and look at current and specific maintenance while looking at short and long term improvements so budgets can be utilized.
Since day one they have been very responsive and have resolved all my needs to this point, as we continue to make system improvements. I would recommend which I have and utilized United Compressor in Rhode Island and Colorado so far. I have expressed to other sites that United Compressor is very reliable and will take the time to analyze the issue and work with each and every customer.
